ASTORIA FUEL OIL TANK FARM CONVERSION
Astoria, New York
Astoria Generating Company replaced its existing No. 6 fuel-oil system at the Astoria Generating Station with an ultra-low sulfur diesel system (ULSD). This project enabled the facility to produce cleaner electricity and comply with emerging environmental regulations.
Cherne was hired under the EPC contract to construct this 4-million-gallon aboveground tank system with steel secondary containment and auxiliary equipment. The system delivers ULSD to two units, across all operating conditions, allowing for maximum generation output of both units simultaneously or full recirculation to the storage tanks to achieve minimum output of either burner.
Major equipment includes two 2-million-gallon fuel-oil tanks, three transfer pump skids, pumps and auxiliary systems.
